Building an Affiliate NetworkIf you're interested in starting an affiliate marketing company then you will have to build an affiliate network. An affiliate network consists of advertisers and affiliates, usually website owners, who help promote the advertisers' offers. Many online retailers, most notably Amazon.com, have an affiliate network in place. A strong affiliate network can mean thousands of dollars in increased sales for a minimal price. Instead of throwing money away on advertisements that may or may not work, an affiliate network costs money only after a specific action has been completed. The Basics of an Affiliate NetworkFirst of all, you want to attract affiliates who will actively promote your advertisers' campaigns. You need affiliates who are passionate about the campaigns that you offer. It's these people who will help make your affiliate network a success. It takes more than just sticking a button or a banner on a website to provoke an action. There must be other content to provoke the prospect to pursue what you offer. Ideally, an affiliate website should be linked to the advertiser's offer via an affiliate link. For example, if you're trying to sell tents, a good affiliate would be someone who has a website dedicated to camping. If your affiliate network is comprised mostly of affiliates with websites dedicated to camping then each visitor to these affiliate websites are excellent candidates for advertisers who sell tents. It's likely that anyone interested enough in camping to seek information on the subject is also likely to need a tent. On the other hand, if you're trying to sell tents then a website dedicated to hotels wouldn't be a good addition to your affiliate network. Most people researching hotels will not be in the market for a tent. See how it works? That's why it's a good idea to try and match the affiliates in your affiliate network to suitable advertisers. How Do I Attract Affiliates?Marketing is the key. People must know your affiliate network is out there before they can consider becoming a part of it. You can get the word out by advertising in newsletters or ezines, posting to various websites, or mentioning it on your own website. After you have an interested person, make it easy for them to join your affiliate network. Many affiliate networks will pay a flat rate or a commission for each person that an affiliate refers which is an excellent free way to build up a solid list of affiliates. Communicate with the affiliates in your network. It doesn't matter if you communicate via email, announcements on your website, or even via phone - just make sure to keep in touch. Affiliates don't like to feel unappreciated and they don't like having a difficult time receiving help when needed. Affiliate networks need to be able to communicate effectively with advertisers and affiliates and make adjustments to the network to suit their needs. |
